Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Review in-depth – Applications, Multimedia, and Camera

-

Few manufacturers launch tablets regularly. Companies like Google, LG or Sony seem to have lost interest in tablets and today only a handful of manufacturers bet on these devices. Samsung is one of the few that maintains a good number of tablets in its catalog. This year, the company has launched a couple of interesting high-end Galaxy Tab S series models: the most affordable Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e and, recently, the most powerful, Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. Along the way the Galaxy Tab S5 has been lost, which never saw the light.

The Galaxy Tab S6 is Samsung’s most advanced tablet. It has a 10.5 ″ Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 855 processor, 6/8 GB of RAM, 128/256 GB of storage, dual 13MP rear camera (wide angle) and 5MP (ultra-wide-angle), 8MP front camera and battery 7,040 mAh with fast charge.

Its price is (List Price $649.99 With Deal: $549.99) with 128 GB and (List Price $729.99 With Deal: $629.99) with 256 GB of storage on online sites like Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6: Applications included

Samsung incorporates some of its own pre-installed applications but offers many more through the Galaxy Apps store. The only Samsung apps that arrive pre-installed are:

  • Samsung Members is an app to offer help to users, and also provides some advantages.
  • Samsung Flow is an app that allows you to link the tablet with a smartphone or a PC to share content between devices, synchronize notifications, etc.
  • Samsung Notes is an app that allows you to take notes easily and synchronize them with other devices through our Samsung account.

If you miss some of the applications that were previously installed at the brand’s devices – such as Samsung Music, Samsung Internet, Kids Mode, S Translator, Slide Sync, and Video – you can download them from the Galaxy Apps store.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6: Multimedia

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 comes with four stereo speakers that have been designed in conjunction with AKG and Harman, so the sound is much better than what we usually find on a tablet. In addition, it has Dolby Atmos to offer 3D surround sound.

The speakers detect the orientation of the tablet – horizontal or vertical – and adjust the sound reproduction to maintain the separation of channels. The speaker quality is quite good, and the sound it emits can be very powerful.

An aspect that is worth noting is the absence of a headphone jack, something that many users will not like. Given that the space occupied by the headphone jack is minimal on a tablet, I would have liked it to be present.

Samsung has chosen not to incorporate its own music player but has turned to “Play Music“, the “Google player“.

Play Music” allows us to organize our songs by genres, artists, albums, and titles and offers a streaming music subscription service similar to Spotify.

We can also download the “Samsung Music” app from the Galaxy Apps store, which has a very attractive design and is well integrated with the rest of Samsung’s services and applications.

Samsung has incorporated some interesting “Adapt Sound” functions to calibrate the sound emitted through the headphones to the frequency response of our ear. Samsung incorporates a function called “UHQ Optimizer” that improves the resolution of the sound of music and videos, as well as a sound equalizer.

Samsung has included its own application called “Gallery” to view and play the photos and videos stored on the tablet. The application also allows you to edit the images through various integrated functionalities.

The video playback with this app is excellent and the tablet is able to play smoothly compatible video files smoothly thanks to its powerful processor. In addition, the high contrast of the screen and pure blacks make it a delight to watch movies.

Of course, videos from streaming services such as Netflix, HBO, and Amazon Prime Video play without any problem. The device is Widevine L1 certified, so we can play HD videos of DRM protected services such as Netflix without problems even in HDR quality.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6: Photo Camera

Although a tablet is not usually the device chosen by users when it comes to capturing photos or videos, Samsung has incorporated two rear cameras:

  • 13 MP wide-angle camera (26 mm.) with f / 2.0 aperture
  • Ultra-wide-angle camera (12 mm.) of 5 MP with f / 2.2 aperture

It is not only the first time that Samsung introduces two rear cameras on a tablet but it is possibly one of the few manufacturers that have bothered to incorporate a double camera.

Interestingly, this double camera is not accompanied by a flash, which can be useful when scanning documents – a much more common task than taking landscape photographs.

With the wide-angle main camera, the quality of the photographs is good in conditions of sufficient light. The images offer a high level of detail and a correct reproduction of the colors.

However, the absence of optical stabilization and a lens with a not too wide aperture make the image present a lot of noise in low light conditions.

The ultra-wide-angle camera allows you to take pictures with many more elements than normally fit in a photograph making it ideal for photographing buildings.

This camera does not have optical stabilization and its opening is somewhat limited, so it is not indicated for taking pictures in low light situations.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is able to capture photos in Portrait mode (or Dynamic Focus, as Samsung calls it) blurring the background,. The result is quite good with sufficient light.

Samsung has incorporated “Bixby Vision” to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, which allows you to identify objects captured by the camera to buy an equal one online, get general information, etc.

When recording video, it is capable of recording at Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 1260 pixels at 30 fps). The videos have good image quality.

The front camera has an 8MP sensor with f / 2.0 aperture and a lens with a fixed focus. These features are enough to make video calls or take selfies in good light conditions, but you cannot expect great quality in other conditions.

The video captured with the front camera has a maximum resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps).
