Huawei Mate 30 Pro In-depth Analysis – Applications included and Multimedia

-

Huawei is going through a difficult time because of the US veto that prevents companies like Google sell or license its technology to the Chinese company. However, Huawei is not willing to give up and recently announced its new flagship Huawei Mate 30 Pro, which comes with impressive hardware but without the services of Google or Play Store.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro comes with a curved 6.5 ″ OLED screen, Kirin 990 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, 40MP + 40MP + 8MP + ToF quad-rear camera, 32MP front camera and 4,500 mAh battery with a fast charge at 40W.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is not yet for sale in some countries but, if there are no surprises, it will reach the market for an official price of € 1,029.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro – Applications included

Huawei has incorporated an application called Health that, as its name implies, allows us to control our physical activity. The application allows you to set goals for daily steps and weight, record when we are going to exercise, and keep track of the number of steps walked, the distance traveled and the number of floors climbed.

The application can connect to external data sources to better track our physical activity.

If you want to migrate your data from another phone, you can use the Phone Clone app to transfer data from any other smartphone (Android or iPhone) to the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. This app transfers through a WiFi zone that creates the phone itself as contacts, call log, calendar events, WiFi connections, multimedia files, application data, etc.

To make use of the infrared emitter, we have the Smart Controller app, which allows adding appliances to which we can give orders directly from the phone. The app includes a large database of brands.

Huawei also adds its Video app, which offers streaming content of movies, series, and events. Huawei offers content under subscription (4.99 euros/month), free content and content of premieres for rent.

Huawei has incorporated an app called HiCare that allows you to diagnose phone hardware problems (sensors, WiFi, Bluetooth, speaker, microphone, screen, camera, etc.), get help with frequent problems and enable a maintenance mode before sending the device for repair so that nobody has access to private data during the repair process.

Huawei has not incorporated third-party applications except WPS Office, an app that allows you to open and edit office files. Finally, as we have already mentioned in the previous section, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro does not include the Google Play Store but the Huawei AppGallery store.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro Multimedia

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro has a main speaker located at the bottom of the phone, next to the USB Type-C connector. The position is not the best since it is easy to cover the speaker by hand when holding the phone horizontally.

The earphone also acts as a speaker when listening to music but Huawei has not opted for a speaker with conventional louver but for an acoustic screen that emits the sound for vibration.

Although this approach works well when it comes to having a voice conversation when we have the ear attached to the screen, it produces a sound with very little power if we want to listen to music at a certain distance.

In tests with both speakers, the sound has been heard powerful and clear, although the quality can not compete with other smartphones that have more balanced speakers where you can see so much difference between one and the other.

Huawei has dispensed with the traditional headphone jack, so we will have to use a USB-C headset (like the ones that Huawei includes in the box) or Bluetooth, or make use of a 3.5mm USB-C adapter.

If you usually listen to music with headphones, you’ll be glad to know that Honor includes a 3D audio technology that calls Histen. This technology allows you to enjoy various playback modes through headphones: automatic, 3D audio, natural and standard.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro also incorporates a ten-band sound equalizer with several predefined modes.

In practice, the sound is heard very well with headphones, although my poorly trained ear does not appreciate a substantial improvement over other high-end smartphones.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro incorporates its own music playback software with an interface that allows you to view songs by title, album, artist, and folder. The application offers several interface design options, as we can see below.

The app allows you to create playlists and mark songs as favorites, as well as access the sound settings from the app.

The music player is not able to download covers automatically from the Internet nor is it possible to play the music that is stored on other network devices. An application called Online music service appears in the application, but when you click on it, a message appears saying that the service is not available in the region.

The Gallery application is used to view and play the photos and videos stored on the phone. The new app incorporates AI capabilities to create Memories (dynamic albums based on date, time and location of photos) and Discover (automatically sort photos based on content).

The application also allows you to edit images using various basic tools to crop, adjust color, modify contrast, etc. Nothing new that we have not seen before.

Huawei has included a specific app for video playback, and the phone is able to play smoothly compatible files smoothly thanks to its processor.

I have played some 1080p and 4K videos encoded with the H.264 codecs and the most modern HEVC, and they have all played well.

However, while other Huawei models included Dolby Atmos support to reproduce sound encoded with Dolby’s AC-4 audio codec, Dolby Atmos is not present in the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. This could be due to the US veto since Dolby is a company based in that country.

As we have commented previously, some streaming services such as HBO, Movistar + or Amazon Prime TV are available for download in the Play Store but Netflix appears as not compatible.
